Social housing tenants tap MITIE for £40m in Major Works in Lewisham

Lewisham Homes has appointed MITIE to deliver £40 million in home improvement works to over 13,000 social housing tenants as part of a five-year Major Works Programme, to include kitchen and bathroom improvements, boiler and system replacements and upgrades for disabled access.

The Lewisham win adds to MITIE’s social housing business, which delivers building maintenance to over 80 local authorities and housing associations across the UK.

The FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing and energy services company has also agreed to take on five apprentices from Lewisham and invest in targeted back-to-work programmes in the area as part of its commitment to invest in the communities in which it operates.

Lewisham residents were involved at each stage of the procurement process, from visiting housing providers to interviewing and selecting contractors. They played a key role in developing the Major Works Standard which sets out the quality and finish of works expected by residents.

Julia Cotton, Lewisham Homes Board Chair said: “We are pleased to be working with MITIE to upgrade the homes in which our residents live. They will soon see the benefits of working in partnership with Lewisham Homes and MITIE through improvements to their homes and the community.”

Bill Robson, Managing Director of MITIE’s Property Management business, said: “We are delighted to be working with Lewisham Homes to carry out extensive improvements and maintenance.

MITIE’s work in Lewisham extends beyond Lewisham Council homes, as we embark on this sizeable piece of work we welcome members of the Lewisham community to join our cadre of over 300 apprentices at MITIE. ”

The Homes and Communities Agency has provisionally allocated £96 million to Lewisham Homes as part of the Major Works programme, with £25.5 million confirmed for the first two years.

What is MITIE?
We’re the strategic outsourcing company. What does that mean in practice? We manage facilities, properties and assets for our clients across the UK and beyond.
