Mitie is supporting Royal London, the UK’s largest mutual insurance, pensions and investment company, with its sustainability strategy, having installed the first ten electric vehicle (EV) charge points at its office in Alderley Park. This is a landmark moment for Mitie in its objective to help public and private sector organisations reach net zero, with over 850 EV charge points installed for customers across the UK and Ireland.
In addition to the initial installation, Mitie is ensuring that Royal London’s charge points are working correctly and carrying-out any necessary maintenance. Mitie is also helping Royal London with the ongoing monitoring of charge point usage, to track trends and determine the pace and focus of its charging infrastructure investment.
Mitie has installed chargers for customers across the length and breadth of Britain as well as in Ireland, covering a broad range of sites including offices and manufacturing facilities. This is in addition to over 1,000 charge points Mitie has already installed at its own sites and at its employees’ homes in support of its commitment to switch its entire fleet of 7,100 vehicles to electric by 2025.
All these efforts are part of Mitie’s Plan Zero commitment to use its sustainability, as well as energy and fleet management, expertise to support public and private sector organisations reach their own decarbonisation targets. In July 2020, Mitie launched its Plan Zero Fleet Transition Service to help customers transition to electric and manage their charge point infrastructure.
In addition to this, Mitie launched a whitepaper on EV charge point infrastructure, outlining key factors businesses should consider when designing their charge point programme. This includes an explanation of the different ownership and billing models for charge points as well as grants available for businesses to fund their fleet decarbonisation plans.
Pradyumna Pandit, Managing Director, Sustainability and Energy Services, Mitie, said:
“Climate change is a fight we cannot win alone, so we’re using our energy management and zero emission fleet expertise to support our customers in reaching their own sustainability goals. From the design and installation of charge points to engineering maintenance and optimisation, we’re supporting our customers throughout their entire fleet electrification journey to help accelerate the decarbonisation of Britain and Ireland.”
Darren Smith, Head of Group Procurement & Estates, Royal London, said:
“We’re committed to playing our part in the fight against climate change. To help reach our climate pledges and reduce our operational emissions, we’ve worked with Mitie to install electric vehicle charging points in our Alderley Park office. We’re encouraging all of our people to help play their part in reducing emissions in any way they can.”
