MITIE has recently recognised the efforts of a group of it’s most dedicated and committed staff during its annual MITIE Stars award ceremony held at Whittlebury Hall, Northamptonshire.
MITIE Stars is a national recognition programme set up to recognise individuals within MITIE’s security business who go above and beyond the call of duty or who consistently deliver a service that exceeds customer expectations. Employees are nominated by team members, managers and clients who feel that their actions deserve recognition.
Over the course of the year, 96 monthly winners from across the UK received cash prizes and on 16 July, a short list of 16 finalists was invited to the black tie event to crown the three overall winners for 2007.
David Fletcher, Martin Lowey and Arshid Khaliq respectively came in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, thereby earning themselves substantial cash prizes.
David, a MITIE Security Supervisor at Sheffield’s Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre, won the award as a result of his speedy actions in coming to the rescue of an elderly gentleman who had collapsed near to one of the main entrance/exit doors. Having identified that the gentleman wasn’t breathing and had no pulse, Dave administered mouth-to-mouth resuscitation before using a defibrillator, which was rushed to the scene. David continued dispensing life saving CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) treatment until paramedics arrived for onward submission to Rotherham District Hospital.
Commenting on his award David said, “I was thrilled to receive a nomination and astounded at the winning outcome - as I see it as part of my everyday life - I was just doing my duty.”
