Mitie, the FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing and energy services company, has been awarded two Gold Awards by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

The 2012 national Occupational Health & Safety Awards have been given to Mitie for its demonstration of excellent occupational health and safety management systems, a rigorous approach to occupational health and high levels of compliance with control measures for principal risks.

Mitie has developed the ‘Work Safe, Home Safe’ communications campaign, designed to raise awareness of health & safety issues for all employees and managers.

The innovative approach to staff communication by Mitie Technical Facilities Management and Property Management has ensured more employees are aware of health & safety procedures, thereby lessening the risk of accidents.

Dick Robinson, director of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE) for Mitie Property Management said:

“Health & Safety is a top priority for us at Mitie and winning this award is great recognition of our work in this area. From our senior management to our people working on-site, everyone is committed to making sure health and safety procedures are followed and we are always looking for ways to improve and get better at what we do.”

Gary King, director of QHSE for Mitie Technical Facilities Management added:

“We are delighted that Mitie has been recognised for its work to improve Health & Safety. Winning this award is the result of the whole company’s commitment to health and safety practices and my congratulations go out to all of the team.”

Over the last five years, Mitie has seen a significant drop in its number of accidents.

David Rawlins, awards manager at RoSPA, said:

“The RoSPA Awards programme provides well-deserved recognition for the winners and spurs on other organisations to raise their standards of accident and ill health prevention.

“We congratulate Mitie on its success and encourage it, and all our other winners, to remain committed to safety and health, an approach that is well recognised to be good for workers and the bottom line.”

The Awards will be presented at a ceremony at the Hilton Glasgow on 20 September 2012.
