Mitie volunteers put green fingers to good use for local hospice

Volunteers have been giving back to their local community by donating their time, resources, and green fingers, to The Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge, West Midlands.

Volunteers have been giving back to their local community by donating their time, resources, and green fingers, to The Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge, West Midlands.

Nine volunteers from FTSE 250 strategic outsourcer Mitie’s managed services and landscaping teams organised and took part in a volunteering day at the hospice on Thursday 21 March.

Working alongside volunteers from the hospice, the team spent the day planting bulbs for the spring and reviving the gardens that surround the hospice.

The Mary Stevens Hospice, which has been providing specialist palliative care to people living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses for over 20 years, relies on donations and support from the local community to continue to deliver vital care, free-of-charge, to people throughout the Dudley borough and surrounding area.

The gardens around the hospice, which enhance the welcoming and comforting surroundings, were in much need of landscaping; work that volunteers at the hospice would otherwise have struggled to complete without specialist help from Mitie’s landscaping team.

The team worked in partnership with Boningale Nurseries, a local supplier, who donated bulbs and plants for the project.

Stephen Barthorpe, Mitie’s sustainable business manager said:

“We’ve always believed at Mitie that being a sustainable business helps build a better business. Projects like this show how we can make important contributions to the local communities we are a part of, and have a positive and lasting impact.”
