Mitie volunteers join forces to revitalise community garden

A new partnership between East Dunbartonshire Council, East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action group (EDVA) and Mitie, the facilities management company, saw the full restoration of a community garden in After View, an open space area in Kirkintilloch, Scotland.

To mark the beginning of Volunteers Week (1 - 7 June), Mitie employees and volunteers came together to develop beautiful bedding spaces for the benefit of the local community.

Jennifer Taylor, Account Manager at Mitie and the project’s organiser said:
“We’re so proud to be a part of this fantastic community project. It’s hugely important to look after public spaces and community gardens, for the benefit of the people living and visiting the local area. It’s such a boost for the community and a great way to encourage people to look after the environment they live in.

“The gardens look beautiful – a huge thank you to all our Mitie people involved and to all the volunteers and our partners for their valued contribution.”

Councillor Ashay Ghai, depute leader of the Council and convenor of Neighbourhood Services, said:
“The Ashton View open space is looking great thanks to the hard work of Mitie employees, who kindly took time out from their busy schedules to complete this community project.

“It’s hoped this is just the beginning and we can develop our relationship and make this a regular event. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the input of EDVA who put us in touch with each other. I was truly delighted to see this great three way partnership in action.”

Gilbert Grieve, EDVA Chief Executive Officer said:
“Mitie approached EDVA to ask about employer supported volunteering. Working in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Council, we were able to organise the rejuvenation of the flower beds off Langmuir Road during Volunteers Week, and what a fantastic job they did!

“The efforts and enthusiasm contributed not only by the Mitie staff, but of the hundreds of other volunteers giving up their time across East Dunbartonshire is inspiring and much appreciated.”
