MITIE, the strategic outsourcing and asset management company has recently secured a security contract with Eurostar, the high speed passenger train service that links the UK with mainland Europe.
Under the contract, MITIE’s specialist transport security team will work alongside Eurostar’s own team to support them in providing travellers and staff with a safe, secure environment at their St Pancras International, Ebbsfleet International and Ashford International terminals as well as taking responsibility for security at their Temple Mills engineering base.
The team of over 330 officers will undertake a variety of roles including customer service support, searching of trains, passengers and baggage, and 24 hour control of access and egress to all sites to meet the requirements stipulated under Department for Transport regulation.
The success in securing the Eurostar contract further enhances MITIE’s presence in the transport sector where it is already operating significant facilities contracts with BAA, FirstGroup and St Pancras station as well as providing specialist transport security at London’s Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton airports as well as at Felixstowe port.
Commenting on the contract award, Tony Medhurst, Managing Director Transport Security said “We’re really delighted to have secured the Eurostar contract and we’re confident that we can work with them to further enhance security’s role in ensuring that travellers have a safe and pleasurable journey when travelling to or from Europe. While the security team undertakes a wide range of duties, we know that they will often be the first people that customers meet and we’re determined to ensure that our agents provide a pivotal role in delivering a great customer experience. Our success in securing this contract reinforces our capabilities of working in DfT regulated environments and expands our services to the rail sector.”
Steve Birchall, Head of Security, Eurostar added “Providing effective security whilst maximising customer service is critical to Eurostar and we’re pleased to be working with MITIE to identify areas where we can make further enhancements to our customers’ travelling experience.”

What is MITIE?
We’re the strategic outsourcing and asset management company.
What does that mean in practice? Providing everything from strategic consultancy, to world-class delivery on the ground. From long-term infrastructure planning, to facilities management, property and engineering services. Our strategic input can add value at the highest level, while our practical management expertise can save customers money and maximise their returns.
At the same time, it’s not just what we do, but how we do it that makes us different. Our people are passionate about what they do, committed to working in partnership with their clients, and will always look for a fresh answer to a new challenge.
We work with our clients in three ways; some take full advantage of our whole range of expertise by buying the whole suite, others may only need one aspect of what we do:
Strategy and consultancy
+ Facilities and project management
+ Service delivery
In other words, we think, we manage, and we deliver.
The thinking phase is all about finding strategic answers to long-term challenges about assets and resources. Facilities and project management puts those plans in place, and our unrivalled range of services is one of the best in the business.
There’s a lot more to MITIE than you probably think. We’re a big company with big ambitions - a leading FTSE 250 support services business, with 49,000+ people, revenues in excess of £1.4bn, and a reputation for being the best.
