Mitie success at the PFM Awards 2016

Mitie has scooped two awards at the prestigious Premises & Facilities Management (PFM) Magazine Awards 2016.

Mitie, the facilities management company, has scooped two awards at the prestigious Premises & Facilities Management (PFM) Magazine Awards 2016.

The awards, held on 2 November at The Brewery in London, saw over 600 people come together to celebrate the achievements of service providers and individuals working in the facilities management (FM) industry.

Mitie picked up the ‘Achievement in Apprenticeship & Skills’ award, in recognition of the quality and innovation of the apprenticeship scheme delivered within its technical FM business. The scheme offers a broad range of four-year technical apprenticeships and two-year business apprenticeships, including mechanical and electrical engineering, surveying, plumbing and business administration.

Founded in 2001 with just four apprentices, the scheme has grown to deliver apprenticeships for 217 individuals and has evolved to become a nationwide offering, providing a steady pipeline of talented young people, supporting future business growth.

The judges stated that: “Mitie demonstrated a solid programme and process which has been developed over many years to achieve outstanding success for the business and the individuals involved”.

Phil Holland, Managing Director of Mitie’s technical FM business, said: “These awards are a reflection of our focus on people in Mitie. They demonstrate the great importance we place on ensuring that there is opportunity to evolve and grow through providing the right support at every level. I am proud of our people for working so hard to achieve their goals.”

There was more success for Mitie as its Head of FM Delivery for one of Mitie's key accounts, Tom Corner, was crowned ‘Young Manager of the Year’.

The category is judged and managed by the Young Managers Forum, giving recognition to the talents of the next generation of FMs who have made an impact early in their careers. Tom began his career at Mitie in a data-entry role and has quickly progressed up through the company to his current position.

Tom said of his award win: “I’m very proud to be named Young Manager of the Year, especially given the high standard of the competition of the other finalists. I’ve been very lucky to have had managers within Mitie who’ve seen my potential, developed and supported me to make this possible”.
