Mitie’s winter service team clears 40,000 tonnes of snow in two weeks in February

Mitie has been busy moving mountains of snow for clients across the country this February.

Mitie, the strategic outsourcing and energy services company, has been busy moving mountains of snow for clients across the country this February.

In the first two weeks of February the team carried out over 25,000 grits on client premises and cleared an astonishing 40,000 tonnes of snow, mainly from client car parks and walkways.

Its winter service team is equipped with over 200 specialist vehicles for gritting and snow clearance, including dozens of specially-adapted Land Rovers fitted with snow ploughs.

Richard Hughes, Mitie’s winter service manager is delighted with the efforts made by the team:

“Thanks to the Met Office system that we use, we have advance warnings of snow and ice and are able to anticipate this on behalf of our clients. Our teams are on 24/7 standby from October right through to March and will normally expect to carry out 80,000 grits in one season.

“Our many clients include commercial businesses as well as hospitals and in the case of the latter, it’s vitally important that their patients and visitors can park and walk around safely on their premises.”
