Mitie's painting business helps L&Q celebrate 50th Anniversary

Mitie’s painting and social housing teams volunteered to re-decorate the local church in time for London & Quadrant (L&Q) Housing Association’s week long exhibition to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Mitie’s painting and social housing teams volunteered to re-decorate the local church in time for London & Quadrant (L&Q) Housing Association’s week long exhibition to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Mitie’s painting and social housing teams donated their time to redecorate the inside of the St Mary Magdalene Church in Woolwich and install a brand new kitchen and bathroom in time for the exhibition which took place in October 2013. L&Q wanted to thank the church by gifting an internal make-over and held their celebration event at the very place where their journey began 50 years ago.

L&Q chose to hold their week-long exhibition at the St Mary Magdalene Church in Woolwich as this was the birthplace of the organisation in 1963 started by Reverend Nicolas Stacey. The offices stayed within the premises for a further 5 years before moving to Deptford.

The exhibition was set-up to celebrate their past and look forward to the future with multi-media on display. The exhibition ran for a week and was open to the whole community. Over 100 people attended the event including residents, staff - past and present, MP’s, the Bishop of Woolwich and other stakeholders.

Pauline South, Planned Project Manager said:

“We are really thankful that Mitie donated their time and labour helping us to give the church a well-deserved make over. There’s a real need for community buildings where people can enjoy good quality facilities. Because of the refurbishment and painting work donated by Mitie people from the local community now have a place to meet, learn new skills and make friends.”

David Montague, Chief Executive of London and Quadrant said: “Fifty years of creating places where people want to live is a phenomenal achievement. All of this would not be possible without the hard work and commitment of our extraordinary staff, stakeholders and residents. Our future looks just as bright – in our 50th year we are set to return our largest ever surplus, meaning we continue to build homes for those in need.”
