Britain’s got it, America’s got it and after a number of regional heats and a grand final last week, we now know more than ever that MITIE’s got talent! That’s right, on 23 September 2008, Verity Hartopp, a MITIE security guard from Devon, beat off seven other finalists to be crowned the first winner of the new talent show – MITIE’s got talent.
Verity performed a truly moving rendition of her song ‘Acid glue’ on acoustic guitar in front of a live audience at MITIE’s management conference. After playing her song, Verity received a standing ovation from the crowd which included her fellow finalists.
Commenting on her performance, Verity said: “It was really good. I was absolutely petrified because I have never sung on my own with a guitar in front of people before, so it was interesting to see what everyone thought. It was also really nice to meet so many people from across MITIE.”
The talent show was presented by some MITIE-fine look-a-likes in the form of Sharon and Ozzy Osborne, and when the Prince of Darkness announced Verity as winner she couldn’t believe it. “I was, and still am, over the moon about the whole thing. I have been out celebrating with friends but I still can’t really believe it.”
Verity’s really looking forward to her prize which is an all expenses paid weekend in London and a whole day in the recording studio to lay down her tracks.
Congratulations also go to other seven talented finalists who were picked from over 50,000 MITIE employees and gave outstanding performances on the night.
