MITIE remembers the fallen at UK memorial

To honour the men and women who sacrificed their lives in the Second World War and in the conflicts that followed, MITIE has provided the National Memorial Arboretum with a much needed teaching facility at no cost.

John Kavanagh, a regional director at MITIE, had learned the centre at the Arboretum needed to increase their teaching capacity and so he quickly stepped in to offer MITIE’s services.

The strategic outsourcing and energy services company arranged for a prefabricated building to be installed at the centre, which includes 2 classrooms each with a capacity for 30 pupils, an office, WC facilities and a large storage area.

The centre is a charity providing free admissions to the general public year round, and the Arboretum has a full educational programme for schools, including indoor and outdoor activities. School visits are organised so that a range of learning outcomes can be achieved, fully supporting the citizenship section of the national curriculum.

John Kavanagh, Regional Director, MITIE Built Environment, North and Midlands, heard that the centre needed to increase their teaching capacity and he quickly stepped in.

“I was so impressed by the Arboretum and their work, and I knew it was something our MITIE team should be involved with.
Luckily many of our supplier partners felt the same and together we were able to help the centre increase their teaching capacity.”

The National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire was conceived as a living tribute to those killed in conflicts since World War II. The beautiful gardens, punctuated with sculptures and memorials, provide a tranquil environment to contemplate the concept of remembrance and the personal impact of war.

MITIE would like to thank the following suppliers for their contribution:
Newey and Eyre
Edmondson Electrical
Thorn lighting
Elliot Hire

Notes for editors

What is MITIE?
We’re the strategic outsourcing company. What does that mean in practice? We manage facilities, properties and assets for our clients across the UK and beyond.

We work with our clients in three ways; some take full advantage of our whole range of expertise, others may only need one aspect of what we do:

Strategy and consultancy
+ Facilities and project management
+ Service delivery

Our strategic input can add value at the highest level by helping clients to manage their assets, while our practical management expertise can save customers money and reduce their carbon emissions. We work with a vast number of clients in every industry across both the public and private sectors and deliver the broadest range of services that can be found in one place: from integrated facilities management to engineering maintenance to lifecycle energy management and much more.

There’s a lot more to MITIE than you probably think. We’re a big company with big ambitions – a leading FTSE 250 support services business, with more than 61,000 people, revenues in excess of £1.9bn, and a reputation for being the best.
