MITIE receives national award for Dudley Council painting project

A redecoration project carried out by MITIE at one of Dudley Council’s extra care sheltered housing schemes in Brierley Hill has secured an industry award.

Painters from MITIE’s Property Services division redecorated the communal areas of Woodhouse Court earlier this year as part of its five-year partnering contract with the council. The work has been placed among the best in the UK after MITIE received a ‘highly commended’ accolade in the commercial category at the annual Painting and Decorating Association’s (PDA) Premier Trophy Awards.

The accolade was awarded to MITIE for the quality of its work and for the way that the team, working in conjunction with council officers, handled challenges such as accessing difficult areas of the building and ensuring the safety of tenants and visitors while the painting was carried out. The high level of communication with tenants and staff during the work was also an important factor.

Representatives from MITIE and Dudley Council went to the prestigious event at Painters’ Hall in London to receive the award from the PDA. The association is Britain's largest trade body dedicated to the painting and decorating trade, and the Premier Trophy Awards attract entries involving some of the UK’s most prestigious projects in the sector.

Dudley-based Commercial Manager Stan Cullen, who collected the award for MITIE, said: “This ceremony is a major event for our industry and we are delighted that our work with Dudley Council has been recognised. Listening to tenants and giving them the opportunity to decide how their community looks is a key element of our partnership with Dudley Council, and it’s an honour to have won an award for our work on this contract.”

Councillor Michael Evans, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “MITIE’s flawless planning and excellent implementation of the redecoration work is testament to the team’s experience. We are delighted that they have been awarded this accolade for the project at Woodhouse Court, and I’m sure that the scheme’s tenants would agree with the awarding judges’ choice.”

MITIE’s five-year contract with Dudley Council commenced in May 2006 and includes painting the outside of houses, flats, maisonettes and high-rise blocks, painting the inside of high rise staircases and corridors for sheltered schemes, and painting empty properties before they are let. The programme also includes ‘social redecorations’, a scheme for older residents who can receive assistance from MITIE in having selected rooms decorated on their behalf.

MITIE is a people business, made up of over 49,000 talented and driven people, all working in one of our key areas of expertise: facilities, property and engineering services.

They bring us passion and we invest in their potential. So when we say that MITIE is a company of world-class people delivering world-class services, we really mean it. The result? 20 years of growth, annual revenues of over £1.4bn, and a reputation for being the very best at what we do.

MITIE installs, manages and maintains, making buildings and their facilities, smarter, greener, safer and better run. We do this for some of the country’s biggest private and public sector organisations, but what’s really different about us, is that we put as much effort into getting the details right for a simple plumbing job as we do to managing an entire office complex.

MITIE is all about having the right people for every job, and the right attitude to getting it done. Simple, really, but it makes all the difference.
