MITIE provides warm hugs this winter

MITIE’s client services team in London has collected over 1000 items of warm winter clothing for homeless charity The Passage this month, to help make this winter a little warmer. With the support of CitySprint, who collected the clothes from various sites across the Capital, the team has helped to make a real difference.

Alongside the clothes collection, over 40 team members have volunteered their time to sort through the clothes for the charity and help serve breakfast at the centre during the month of November.

The Passage, based in Victoria, is a homeless charity which runs London's largest voluntary sector day centre for homeless people. Every day it helps up to 200 homeless and vulnerable men and women, providing resources which encourage, inspire and challenge homeless people to transform their lives. The Passage helps by offering basic care (food, showers, laundry and clothing), individual assessment and advice, health services, housing, education, training and employment, outreach services on the streets of Westminster, pastoral and spiritual care, hostel accommodation and supported semi-independent accommodation.

Sarah Norwood from The Passage said:

“As a charity, we are reliant on financial donations, gifts in kind such as clothing and the donation of time from volunteers. The team at MITIE has worked with us to build the appeal around what works best for us and their contributions are gratefully received by both us and our clients.”

Debra Ward, director for MITIE’s client services business said:

“This is the first year of our appeal and I have been amazed at the extraordinary amount of support we have received from within our business and from our suppliers. Our team members have been behind it from the start and we hope to build on this momentum to create an even more successful appeal in 2010.”

Notes for editors

What is MITIE?
We’re the strategic outsourcing and asset management company.

What does that mean in practice? Providing everything from strategic consultancy, to world-class delivery on the ground. From long-term infrastructure planning, to facilities management, property and engineering services. Our strategic input can add value at the highest level, while our practical management expertise can save customers money and maximise their returns.

At the same time, it’s not just what we do, but how we do it that makes us different. Our people are passionate about what they do, committed to working in partnership with their clients, and will always look for a fresh answer to a new challenge.

We work with our clients in three ways; some take full advantage of our whole range of expertise by buying the whole suite, others may only need one aspect of what we do:

Strategy and consultancy

+ Facilities and project management

+ Service delivery

In other words, we think, we manage, and we deliver.

The thinking phase is all about finding strategic answers to long-term challenges about assets and resources. Facilities and project management puts those plans in place, and our unrivalled range of services is one of the best in the business.

There’s a lot more to MITIE than you probably think. We’re a big company with big ambitions - a leading FTSE 250 support services business, with more than 50,000+ people, revenues in excess of £1.5bn, and a reputation for being the best.
