MITIE produces Energy Manager of the Year

Ken Heaton, Energy Manager for MITIE Managed Services has recently been named by the Energy Institute (EI) as the winner of the Nemex Energy Manager of the Year, 2007. The annual awards are judged by the EI and were recently presented at the Industry Achievements Awards dinner, held during the Nemex annual national energy management conference and exhibition.

Commenting on his award Ken said, “I would not have won this award without the help and support of many other people, it has been a team effort and I am extremely proud to win on behalf of everyone at MITIE, who has supported me in delivering savings to our customers and attacking climate change.”

MITIE staff, involved in delivering facilities management services, have recently been involved in a number of initiatives to support clients and their partners in the area of energy efficiency and awareness. With a growing pressure on organisations to reduce their carbon footprint and support the achievement of the country’s tough climate change targets, the issue of sustainability involved in working with buildings is now firmly on the agenda across a variety of sectors.

In particular, MITIE staff recently supported a range of energy awareness and sustainability initiatives being undertaken within a number of schools across the UK, as part of the organisation’s commitment to sustainability.

Ken Heaton has been working over the last year with Castle Vale School in Birmingham, to help them in their drive to become more sustainable and energy efficient. The project was filmed by Teachers TV, for a series of ‘Going Green’ programmes aimed at developing energy awareness and sustainability across the education sector.
