MITIE opens innovative FM centre of excellence in Northern Ireland

MITIE, the FTSE 250 facilities management (FM) company, has opened new offices in Northern Ireland for its FM operations. MITIE is one of the largest outsourcing and asset management providers in the UK and works with a wide range of private and public sector organisations, including large retailers, banks, airports, property management companies, education and healthcare organisations.

The company provides a range of integrated services that support the buildings and infrastructure of its clients including everything from strategic consultancy and energy management to providing security, cleaning, pest control, catering and mechanical and electrical engineering services.

MITIE’s new FM facility is located in the Hub of the North at Silverwood Business Park, which is strategically placed for operational delivery across the whole of Northern Ireland. This 125-acre business park is home to many blue-chip companies. As well as being home to MITIE’s FM teams in Northern Ireland, MITIE is providing a full range of FM services to the business park including security, cleaning, landscaping and pest control. The site will serve as a flagship location in showcasing MITIE’s comprehensive capability in the FM market place. MITIE has also established a live, innovative training academy where all teams can undertake hands-on, practical training in a wide range of scenario-based exercises. Philip Murdock, General Manager of Security for Northern Ireland commented: “This unique development is really exciting for MITIE as it gives us a real opportunity to showcase our service excellence and to train our people to a world-class level in a real-time operational environment.”

MITIE has been providing an integrated range of total facilities management services in Northern Ireland for several years and is continuing to expand and strengthen its local teams across all operations. Recent client wins include Linden Foods and CEM Systems, with existing clients including national high street banks and recruitment consultants.

Lawrence Harper, General Manager for MITIE’s cleaning and environmental operations for Northern Ireland comments: “MITIE regards itself as a local company everywhere it operates and that’s one of the many things I like about it. Although we employ over 55,000 people and have 120 offices around the UK we still offer a local service and employ local people at each of our locations. We’re taking this further by offering opportunities to our local suppliers in the region to provide their products to our business teams in the UK.”

Harper says that one of the main selling points for him is that MITIE does things by the book. “The company has a huge range of expertise not only in the wide range of outsourced facilities management services but also in its support activities. We have expertise in energy management, health and safety, HR, training and many other areas. This pool of expertise will further enhance the services we can provide to our clients in Northern Ireland. We are always looking to give back to the communities in which we operate and our approach to Corporate Responsibility underpins everything we do. We have six regional charities across the country, and are now in discussions with a prominent Northern Irish charity to help raise funds for them here as well. We’re definitely going places.”

Notes for editors

What is MITIE?
We’re the strategic outsourcing and asset management company.

What does that mean in practice? Providing everything from strategic consultancy, to world-class delivery on the ground. From long-term infrastructure planning, to facilities management, property and engineering services. Our strategic input can add value at the highest level, while our practical management expertise can save customers money and maximise their returns.

At the same time, it’s not just what we do, but how we do it that makes us different. Our people are passionate about what they do, committed to working in partnership with their clients, and will always look for a fresh answer to a new challenge.

We work with our clients in three ways; some take full advantage of our whole range of expertise by buying the whole suite, others may only need one aspect of what we do:

Strategy and consultancy

+ Facilities and project management

+ Service delivery

In other words, we think, we manage, and we deliver.

The thinking phase is all about finding strategic answers to long-term challenges about assets and resources. Facilities and project management puts those plans in place, and our unrivalled range of services is one of the best in the business.

There’s a lot more to MITIE than you probably think. We’re a big company with big ambitions - a leading FTSE 250 support services business, with more than 54,000 people, revenues in excess of £1.7bn, and a reputation for being the best.
