  • Mitie has been recognised for its commitment to reaching net zero by 2025, as part of its Plan Zero pledge
  • This follows the release of Mitie’s ESG Report 2023, showing significant positive progress in its ESG strategy

Mitie has been named the ‘Best Company for Carbon Transition’ at ESG Investing’s Corporate ESG Awards 2023, recognising its continued commitment to prioritising sustainability.

ESG Investing’s awards are the only awards evaluating the best companies in all areas of ESG investing globally. Mitie claimed the top prize in the mid-cap category, against a shortlist of major global companies and recognisable brands including Exxaro Resources and Britvic.

Mitie was recognised for its ambitious ‘Plan Zero’ pledge to reach net zero by 2025, 25 years before the UK Government’s 2050 target. Mitie also supports its private and public customers in meeting their own carbon reduction goals through its ‘Decarbonisation Delivered’ initiative, drawing on its business capabilities including EV Transition, Waste, Efficient Buildings and Renewable Energy.

The award win follows the release of Mitie’s ESG Report 2023, which shows positive progress in the pillars of its ESG strategy: Environment, People, Community, Responsible Supply Chain and Innovation. The report outlines significant achievements including supporting 1,110 apprentices, becoming one of only 219 companies globally to have received validation from the Science Based Target initiative for its carbon reduction targets, and reaching more than 19,000 volunteering hours across the business. Mitie also announced this year that it has transitioned 50% of its fleet to electric vehicles, meaning it operates one of the largest electric fleets in the UK.

Jason Roberts, Group Director, Sustainability and Social Value, Mitie, said:

“Our commitment to ESG is central to everything we do at Mitie, including the work we do for our clients, and within our own business. As we move towards our Plan Zero deadline, we’re proud that our dedication to supporting our people and the planet has been recognised, and that we now hold the title of the ‘Best Company for Carbon Transition’”.
