MITIE makes it a double with its PRM service

MITIE, the strategic outsourcing and asset management company, has secured two ‘Passenger with Reduced Mobility’ (PRM) contracts. One is with Cardiff Airport and the other is with London Luton Airport, with over 75 people transferring to MITIE from the previous incumbent. 

From the moment a passenger arrives at the airport they have the option to use a wheelchair that is fully operated by a trained MITIE PRM specialist. The MITIE person is on hand to collect and transport the passenger through to the aircraft or help them through the airport on their journey home. Part of the new contracts will see the MITIE teams wearing a specially tailored corporate suit and tie that will give a professional appearance at both airports whilst allowing freedom of movement to help transfer people using wheelchairs. 

Effective training helps instil the right attitude as well as enhanced productivity. Training is an integral part of both contracts with each MITIE employee having his or her own personal development programme and specific training for the role they are carrying out. The MITIE team receives training in kinetic and ergonomic people-handling, customer care, communication and dealing with confrontation as well as all relevant health and safety awareness training. 

At London Luton Airport MITIE’s bespoke Vision IT passenger allocation system is being installed. This system allows the team to know when a passenger is planning to arrive and the level of service they require from the outset as well as supplying details of where they are travelling to.
