Mitie makes a splash with new Yorkshire Water contract

  • Mitie has been awarded a new three-year contract to deliver grounds maintenance services for Yorkshire Water
  • As part of the contract Mitie will deliver landscaping services including grass cutting, hedge maintenance, tree management, weed control, adverse weather services, and sustainable drainage systems management
  • Mitie will bring its ‘Live Landscapes’ intelligent technology to the contract

Mitie, the UK’s leading facilities management company, has been awarded a new contract with Yorkshire Water to deliver on-site grounds maintenance services for three years. Yorkshire Water is a major provider of essential water and wastewater services, serving over five million households and 140,000 businesses across Yorkshire and the Humber.

The new contract, worth £4m, will see Mitie undertake grounds and landscape maintenance of approximately 2,000 operational, recreational, and corporate sites across the Yorkshire Water estate, including clean and wastewater sites, pumping stations, bore holes, service reservoirs, water towers, and office locations.

As part of the contract, Mitie will deliver a broad range of landscaping services, including hedge maintenance, tree management, grass cutting, horticulture, weed control, adverse weather services, pest control and sustainable drainage systems management. Mitie will combine its landscaping expertise with the use of intelligent technology, including its ‘Live Landscapes’ online hub designed to provide real-time data and information on operations across the estate. This enables the landscaping teams to monitor key activities, issues, trends and other data metrics from each site, which will generate the insight needed to allocate resources, assess operational efficiencies, identify service bottlenecks, view operational data and images, as well as tracking key performance indicators.

The new contract award reflects Mitie’s strong experience in the utilities sector and follows a sequence of new contracts wins, with the company also recently landing two multimillion-pound integrated facilities management contracts with National Grid.

Mitie’s landscapes services have gone from strength to strength, with the company also recently acquiring Biotecture, a leading ‘Living Walls’ specialist, to help decarbonise built environments and support its commitment to be the greenest landscaping provider in the UK.

Tim Howell, Managing Director, Landscapes, Mitie said:

“We’re proud to be working with Yorkshire Water and expanding our expertise in the utilities sector. With our industry leading services, backed by our technology-led approach to landscaping, we’re looking forward to providing Yorkshire Water with the support it needs as the main supplier of clean and safe water across Yorkshire and the Humber.”

Stephen Williams, Workplace Experience Manager, Yorkshire Water, said:

“As a business we operate across one of the largest regions in the UK, with offices, operational and recreational facilities spread throughout the county. We believe Mitie are the best choice to help us maintain our grounds across the region, and we are looking forward to working closely with them to ensure our sites remain pleasant places for our colleagues and local communities to enjoy visiting.”
