MITIE leads the FM industry in making buildings accessible to the disabled

MITIE has become the first facilities management company in the industry to offer a complete range of disabled access solutions.

The FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing and energy services company has formed a strategic partnership with Direct Enquiries, the UK’s leading provider of access and disability consultancy services.

The partnership is an integral part of MITIE’s sustainability strategy, which includes a commitment to identifying and minimising health and safety risks, and will see MITIE expand the range of services it can offer to prospective and existing clients.

MITIE’s Facilities Management business will be working alongside Direct Enquiries to make public places and workplace environments accessible to disabled people and wheelchair users.

Grant Kennedy, chief executive of Direct Enquiries, said: “We have seen a massive repositioning of our business since the Equality Act 2010, which required facilities managers to minimise barriers to access in public spaces and the workplace. We’re delighted to be working with MITIE to put disability at front of mind for facilities managers.”

Martyn Freeman, managing director of MITIE’s Facilities Management business said: “We are pleased to be working with Direct Enquiries and to further our commitment to equality and diversity in the work that we do.”

Notes for editors

What is MITIE?
We’re the strategic outsourcing company. What does that mean in practice? We manage facilities, properties and assets for our clients across the UK and beyond.

We work with our clients in three ways; some take full advantage of our whole range of expertise, others may only need one aspect of what we do:

Strategy and consultancy
+ Facilities and project management
+ Service delivery

Our strategic input can add value at the highest level by helping clients to manage their assets, while our practical management expertise can save customers money and reduce their carbon emissions. We work with a vast number of clients in every industry across both the public and private sectors and deliver the broadest range of services that can be found in one place: from integrated facilities management to engineering maintenance to lifecycle energy management and much more.

There’s a lot more to MITIE than you probably think. We’re a big company with big ambitions – a leading FTSE 250 support services business, with more than 56,000 people, revenues in excess of £1.7bn, and a reputation for being the best.
