MITIE launches Police Support Service

MITIE, the FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing company, today launches a Police Support Service.

The service is aimed at helping police forces to deliver their services against a backdrop of budgetary pressure.

Police forces are increasingly contracting out non-core activities, and in response MITIE has expanded the range of services it offers to forces.

These now include custody services, detainee escorting and the provision of modular police cells. In the future these services may be extended to provide support for door-to-door inquiries, scene of crime management and bail management.

The new unit, led by Alex Boddy, is working with police forces to identify new outsourcing opportunities that will create efficiencies and safeguard frontline services.

Mr Boddy said: “Today’s unprecedented financial demands on all forces require really innovative thinking to make budgets stretch further and we have developed many ways to help forces operate more efficiently.

“We can provide support and deliver many non-core tasks normally undertaken by police officers to the same high standards, which will free up warranted officers for core frontline services.”

Mr Boddy, who has joined MITIE as Director, Police Support Services, has over 13 years industry experience including the management of outsourced contracts for criminal justice agencies including security, facilities management, custody and forensic medical services.

MITIE is a leading security provider in the UK and employs 12,000 officers and delivers 4,000 security contracts across 10,000 sites.

This initiative further expands MITIE’s security offering following the recruitment of Brett Lovegrove, former head of Counter-Terrorism at the City of London Police, as a key advisor last year and the development of its state-of-the-art security centre, MITEC, which will open in Northern Ireland later in the year.

Notes for editors

What is MITIE?
We’re the strategic outsourcing company. What does that mean in practice? We manage facilities, properties and assets for our clients across the UK and beyond.

We work with our clients in three ways; some take full advantage of our whole range of expertise, others may only need one aspect of what we do:

Strategy and consultancy
+ Facilities and project management
+ Service delivery

Our strategic input can add value at the highest level by helping clients to manage their assets, while our practical management expertise can save customers money and reduce their carbon emissions. We work with a vast number of clients in every industry across both the public and private sectors and deliver the broadest range of services that can be found in one place: from integrated facilities management to engineering maintenance to lifecycle energy management and much more.

There’s a lot more to MITIE than you probably think. We’re a big company with big ambitions – a leading FTSE 250 support services business, with more than 56,000 people, revenues in excess of £1.7bn, and a reputation for being the best.
