Mitie, the facilities management company, has launched a specially-designed children’s menu at St George’s NHS Foundation Trust in London, to improve the childrens’ experience in healthcare and aid recovery.
The new menu features simple, child-friendly options such as fish fingers, ice cream with sprinkles and ‘build your own’ jacket potatoes. Children also have a choice of sandwiches or the ‘Chef’s Special’ which changes every day.
The menu was launched on Wednesday 10 June to show off the new menu to young patients. They took part in fun, hands-on activities including cake decorating and even made pictures out of pieces of fruit with a dedicated team from the hospital.
The team will be getting feedback over the next couple of weeks on how the menus are being received by patients. That way they can keep the menus fresh and up to date.
Pat Taylor, dietitian for Mitie’s healthcare team, has been working with the Trust to launch the menu and knows the important part that this new menu will play in patient’s overall wellbeing.
Pat says: “Being in hospital is a frightening experience for anyone, but when you’re a child you’re being taken away from everything that’s familiar. Mealtimes are the few times in the day when you can bring some normality to patients. We want to make sure that the meals are appetising and something the children really want to eat.”
Mark Wittich, Director for Mitie’s healthcare team, said: “This is a great update to our food offering at St George’s Hospital. It demonstrates the real value that we bring to our client’s operations at St George’s. I am delighted with the way it has been received by the children and their parents.”
