Mitie, the FTSE 250 strategic outsourcer, has teamed up with the National Housing Maintenance Forum (NHMF) to launch the second ‘Smarter Ways of Working’ publication.
The innovative best practice guide which looks at delivering efficiency in the social housing sector is a joint project between Mitie and the NHMF, the social housing sector’s lead source of good practice in the fields of maintenance and asset management.
The initiative builds on the success of Mitie’s inaugural publication showcasing the breadth and diversity of innovation, performance and client-focused work that Mitie people and its partners have delivered to achieve Smarter Ways of Working.
Peter Griffin, Mitie’s director of Housing, said:
“After the success and popularity of our 2013 Smarter Ways of Working publication, and following on from our recent rebranding, we’ve taken this as an opportunity to work with our partners at the NHMF to show how the industry has progressed.
“This new version offers further insight into some of the current technological advances being used by our teams across Mitie, from Pest Control to Security and, of course, our Housing business.”
The case studies are split into three areas: People, Property and Carbon. These are the three elements of Mitie’s totalcare approach to providing services to the social housing market.
Property
In the case study example for Orbit East and South, Mitie explains how through targeted, incremental changes, it moved to Smarter Ways of Working. Mitie explains how the client has seen results, with outstanding repairs reduced from a peak of almost 5,000 to fewer than 1,700 – the optimal level for forward planning our operatives’ diaries. For customers, this means more repairs completed in a single visit and more appointment slots to suit them. Since the review, overall customer satisfaction has increased by nearly 4%.
People
A case study within the People section highlights the work of the Mitie Foundation, an independent charity focused on creating opportunities for people of all backgrounds to join the world of work. This charity raises aspirations and unlocks people’s true potential. It was set up to bring together Mitie’s community engagement activities, as well as developing new programmes aligned to its vision.
Carbon
In one of two case studies for client A2Dominion, Mitie demonstrates how they have installed energy saving ‘Chop-Cloc’ devices to properties across the client’s housing stock. The device is designed to ‘chop’ the heating supply to the home at timed intervals, without there being a noticeable change in temperature whilst reducing energy consumption and saving money. Installing this device has demonstrated an 18% reduction in heating demand and a reduction of 600kg of CO2 per household.
