MITIE JOINS ELITE GROUP OF COMPANIES TO GET CIPS AWARD

FTSE 250 business MITIE has become one of only a few UK outsourcing companies to receive the prestigious award – CIPS Corporate Certification, for excellence in procurement policies and procedures from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply.

The award recognises MITIE’s outsourced Technical Facilities Management (TFM) team has procurement policies of the highest international standard.

By utilising its size and buying power, this means MITIE is able to make savings on its procurement processes. These financial savings are then passed onto the client, helping MITIE deliver ‘more for less’ as well as helping client’s own procurement teams.

Established in 1932, CIPS is the world’s leading authority on purchasing and supply best practice and its code of conduct and qualifications are the standard around the world.

The MITIE procurement team consists of ten staff in Manchester and Portsmouth. Procurement is handled by specialist teams covering operational support, sourcing, tendering, contracts and vendor management.

Andy Thompson, procurement director of MITIE TFM, said: “We are very pleased and proud to receive this award after having worked hard to develop the procurement team into a world class unit.

“This award differentiates us from our competitors because it recognises the importance we place on procurement as a central component of our service offering. Procurement is a major cost and by maximising the savings we can pass these onto the client.

“For MITIE, it is about recognising that procurement is a service itself – as opposed to a peripheral issue with no impact on the bottom line. By enhancing our own procurement processes we are able to pass on this knowledge and help our clients’ own procurement teams.”

Andrew Coulcher, Director of Business Solutions at CIPS, said: “This award requires a high degree of professionalism and we are proud to award it to MITIE for a second year in a row.”
