Mitie, the FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing company, has had its FM managers training course accredited by The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the world’s largest professional health and safety membership organisation.
Mitie is the only Facilities Management (FM) business to hold an IOSH accredited course with a special focus on FM manager operations and responsibilities.
IOSH awarded the licence to Mitie’s facilities services business for its Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) Responsibilities for FM managers training course.
The course, which is unique to Mitie, has been shaped around Mitie’s systems and processes, providing managers and supervisors with a firm understanding of legal compliance in quality, health, safety and environment (QHSE).
The detailed training programme has been developed by Mitie’s head of QHSE, Kevin Peart and senior QHSE manager, Mark Cardnell, who are both highly qualified chartered members of IOSH.
Delivered over five days, the training covers all areas of QHSE including accident reporting and investigation, risk assessment, control of contractors, fire and electrical safety, manual handling, working at height, control of substances hazardous to health, electrical safety and permit to work.
The programme combines hands on experience and private individual learning with a mandatory project assignment and final examination.
Over 300 Mitie people have been nominated to attend the course and 40 have successfully completed it to date.
Rob Cattell, managing director of Mitie’s facilities services business, commented:
“It is fantastic that our training course has been recognised by the IOSH. In a business where people are at the heart of the organisation, we are committed to providing the training and working environment to enable them to work safe and go home safe at the end of each working day.”
