Mitie improvement to Castlemilk Community Fire Station

Construction of a new accommodation block for Castlemilk Community Fire Station in Glasgow has been completed by property management firm Mitie.

Construction of a new accommodation block for Castlemilk Community Fire Station in Glasgow has been completed by property management firm Mitie.

The work, which took place over eight months includes a new two storey accommodation and training suite for firefighters, energy efficiency measures such as solar panels and additional insulation to make the building more energy efficient.

A previously unemployed local labourer was employed to work on the project, and a local football pitch was refurbished by Mitie as part of their commitment to improve the communities in which they work.

Joe Fay, Senior Project Manager at Mitie said “The project has been a success not only because of the hard work of our operatives, but because of the positive impact they have had in the local community.”

Assistant Chief Officer Dave Boyle, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Director in the West and its Senior Officer in Glasgow, added: “We are delighted to have this state-of-the-art facility, which will be a vital asset for the community of Castlemilk for many years to come.”

“A fire station should be at the heart of its community and this refurbishment ensures Castlemilk station is more than just a base of operations for our firefighters.”

“The community room provides a much-needed space for local groups to meet, and the football pitch is already driving down anti-social behaviour – including fires – making the public safer.”
