Today at Lampton Academy in Hounslow, Ruby McGregor-Smith CBE, CEO of Mitie, the FTSE 250 outsourcer, spoke to a hall of students about her personal career journey, at an event organised by the charity Speakers for Schools.
Her talk opened a special professional day at Lampton Academy, which involved the participation of over 20 business women across all industries, as a fun and effective way of informing and engaging with young female students, and giving them an insight into a variety of careers.
After a series of speeches and interactive Q&A sessions, small groups of year 10 students were given the chance to spend up to 15 minutes with each business professional and talk with them about their job roles and career paths.
Ruby McGregor-Smith CBE, CEO of Mitie, said:
“At Mitie we are passionate about providing people with opportunities to maximize their potential. Events such as this are a great way for young people to explore different career options.
“I’m delighted to have taken part in this event and shared my experiences with the pupils at Lampton Academy.”
Ashley Hodges, Executive Director of Speakers for Schools, said:
“We are delighted to have been able to help facilitate this opportunity for Lampton Academy. Ruby offering her time and advice to students is invaluable to what we are looking to achieve as a charity – a chance for young people in state schools to hear directly from the top executives and leading figures across industries to nurture and encourage their ambitions.
“We are already seeing fantastic results coming from these engagements and are grateful for Ruby and Mitie’s immense support of the charity’s work.”
