Mitie, the UK’s leading facilities transformation company, kicked off National Apprenticeship Week with its 2025 Apprenticeship Awards ceremony, recognising the outstanding efforts of apprentices and their champions across the business. Following the success of last year’s event, this year’s awards saw an impressive 150 nominations from across the business.
Isobel Gutteridge, a Construction Quantity Surveyor Level 6 Degree Apprentice on one of Mitie’s NHS contracts took home the top prize for Technical Apprentice of the Year. At 19, Isobel relocated from the Midlands to London to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Building Surveying, and is now on track to complete her degree with outstanding results. Isobel's proactive attitude has led to her taking on significant responsibilities, including leading on entire ward refurbishment projects. During National Apprenticeship Week last year, Isobel inspired students by sharing her apprenticeship journey, and her achievements make her a model representative of Mitie.
Kyeisha Adams, an Operations and Departmental Management Level 5 Apprentice was awarded Management Apprentice of the Year. Since joining Mitie’s team at the Ministry of Defence’s Corsham site, where Mitie delivers a range of FM services, three-and-a-half years ago, Kyeisha has quickly risen through the ranks, earning a promotion to Team Leader, and she now leads a team of 15. She completed her Level 3 FM Supervision apprenticeship three months ahead of schedule and has now continued her learning by embarking on a Level 5 course in Operations Management, while also mentoring and coaching other colleagues in her team.
Emma Ivison, a Business Administration Level 3 Apprentice in Cumbria won Professional Apprentice of the Year in recognition of her achievements. Emma’s dedication and high standards set her apart, as she completed her apprenticeship 10 months ahead of schedule, achieving two distinctions and a pass. Her adaptability has seen her excel across multiple departments within the contract, making a significant impact on supporting the engineering team.
Along with apprentices, Mitie also celebrated the crucial work of those who support learners to be their best, including Apprentice Line Manager of the Year, Andy Bours, an Engineering Service Delivery Manager in Derbyshire, who has demonstrated exceptional leadership as an apprentice line manager for over seven years. Starting with two apprentices in 2017, his team has now grown to include 10 apprentices, representing 20% of the contract’s workforce. Andy is deeply invested in his team’s growth, regularly conducting one-to-one mentoring sessions and leading workshops to ensure continuous learning. His work creating a collaborative environment has boosted team morale and performance.
Rich Garland, Account Director on Mitie’s MoD Corsham contract was awarded Apprentice Champion of the Year. Rich’s collaboration with local colleges to mentor T Level students in Business, Engineering, and IT has earned glowing testimonials from Wiltshire College, and one apprentice credits Rich for shaping her career path, providing clear, practical advice.
Finally, MoD Corsham was named Apprenticeship Contract of the Year. With wins in both the Apprentice Champion and Management Apprentice of the Year categories, and a 100% apprenticeship completion rate in 2024, the MoD Corsham team offer a shining example of the benefits of embracing earn and learn schemes.
Kate Large, Director of Learning and Development, Mitie, said:
