Mitie’s property management business has been awarded the Disability Confident employer accreditation.
Developed by employers and representatives of disabled people, the Disability Confident scheme and aims to encourage businesses to recruit, retain and develop disabled and those with health conditions.
The Disability Confident accreditation encompasses a number of voluntary commitments by the employer, such as offering work experience opportunities and implementing a flexible recruitment process, and is split into three tiers of commitment:
- Level 1: Disability Confident committed employer
- Level 2: Disability Confident employer
- Level 3: Disability Confident leader
Mitie’s property management business received the Level 2 accreditation for demonstrating its commitment to 13 statements and two actions grouped into two themes: ‘Getting the right people for your business’ and ‘Keeping and developing your people’.
The accreditation comes following the success of the ’Think Differently’ project, launched by Mitie and the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) in 2016. The initiative sees Mitie work alongside CITB, Remploy, the National Autistic Society and Geason Training to provide invaluable work experience opportunities, training and mentoring for job-ready disabled candidates.
Mathew Bishop, Managing Director commented:
“Being Disability Confident is a unique opportunity to lead the way in our marketplace and discover someone our business can’t do without.
"The award recognises some of the work we are doing at Mitie to actively attract, retain and develop disabled talent, including the 'Think Differently' initiative which has been a tremendous success.”
