Mitie, the facilities management company, together with its client Orbit South Housing Association, celebrated the opening of a communal patio garden at Sherwood House, one of Orbit’s independent living schemes in Hastings.
Sherwood House is home to 68 Orbit residents, all of whom are over the age of 55, and although they are able to live independently, they also have support available if they need it.
The new patio, funded by Mitie’s Community Investment Fund, offers Orbit residents a quiet outdoor area for rest and relaxation. Creating a level exit from the communal lounge, with accessible benches and tables for drinks, means that residents and their visitors can sit outside and enjoy the landscaped gardens.

Anna Wilson-Patterson, Orbit Scheme Officer at Sherwood House said: “The patio is beautifully crafted and a well-loved addition to Sherwood House. It is perfect for those who are housebound or in poor health and provides a therapeutic peaceful haven to enjoy the lavender, hydrangeas, birdsong and read the paper, with the added benefit of seeing a neighbour and having a catch up.”
