Mitie, the facilities management company, has been working with Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), the UK commercial and residential property services company, to improve the grounds of Baverstock Academy, a local school in Birmingham.
Supported by Mitie’s landscaping business, the ‘give and gain day’ initiative is an annual event organised by JLL’s Birmingham office. Employees spend a day at Baverstock Academy to improve the school grounds in order to create a more positive environment for the students.
After a struggle to source plants and equipment, JLL turned to Mitie for assistance with the event. Mitie helped by not only sourcing the required plants and equipment, but also by donating money towards the event to provide the school with twice as many plants.
A team of ten people from Mitie and JLL, including Paul Cawsey, JLL’s sustainability manager from Mitie’s landscaping business, helped out by removing the overgrown weeds in the school grounds and planting over 50 shrubs and climbers.
Philip Farrell, Director of Planning and Development at JLL, Birmingham said: “Mitie really impressed us by responding immediately with not only an offer to arrange the delivery, but also to match our funds so we could purchase twice as many plants. Paul Cawsey from Mitie also offered to come and help with the actual work.
“The end result has been a dramatic improvement in the school’s appearance, which will be a welcome surprise for the children at the start of term.”
