MITIE has added additional ferries and a catamaran to its existing cleaning contract with Brittany Ferries. MITIE, which has been working with the French ferry company for over a year, now looks after five vessels including the fast catamaran Normandie Express and large ferries including the Normandie, Mont St Michel and the Bretagne.
The team in place currently has to prepare all ships ready for departure from Portsmouth to Cherbourg, Caen and St. Malo in France. The individual ships are divided into two areas for cleaning – cabins and public areas. Typically, the team has to clean and service the vessels with only a 90 minute turnaround time, making them ready for the next sailing. For the ferries this includes cleaning and making the beds of up to 365 two to four berth cabins in an hour and cleaning the restaurants, cafés, reclining lounges, toilets and all public areas. They also clean Brittany Ferries’ office and terminal in Portsmouth.
Given that Brittany Ferries is a French company, all communication between MITIE and the client is carried out in French. Much of the cleaning and maintenance at the other end in France is carried out by MITIE's French partner Sin-et-Stès, making this a double act.
