Mitie’s social care business, MiHomecare, was recognised for its contribution to care at an awards ceremony held last month in Plymouth.
Around 175 people attended the 'Celebrating Excellence in Care: Plymouth 2016' event, which showcased the best in Plymouth care, from nursing homes and care homes to those who provide care in people's homes.
MiHomecare was one of eight providers awarded the Domiciliary Care Award which recognises those homecare contracts that reflect key principles such as the Living Wage, paid travel time, minimum 30 minute visits and guaranteed hours contracts.
The event – the first of its kind in Plymouth – was organised by council chiefs and awards were presented to care workers by a range of local dignitaries, including Lord Mayor Dr John Mahony and Councillors Ian Tuffin and Linda Bowyer.
Representatives from care homes across the city attended the event, which also included a raffle that raised £855 for the Children's Happy Hospital Fund at Derriford Hospital. The fund supports the children and young people's health directorate and aims to make a difference for all young patients, their families and carers both in hospital and at home.
MiHomecare was also highly commended for the implementation of its new electronic call monitoring system, which provides greater assurance around the quality and timing of visits to clients, as well as helping to ensure the safety of carers, who are often lone workers.

I feel extremely proud to work for the company and to pick up this award.”
