Last years winter was one of the mildest since records began but unfortunately early forecasts for this winter are predicting more unsettled, colder weather with more snow than usual.
Work is well underway within MITIE's gritting team to make sure that this winter, customers throughout the UK will be able to safely continue their business, uninterrupted by icy conditions.
Last year MITIE gritted a total of around 8000 business, retail and industrial sites between October and April and this number is set to increase significantly with the prediction of a harsher winter and MITIE is already seeing an increase in the number of customers signing up for the gritting service. MITIE’s gritting service uses specially commissioned Met Office data and local knowledge to provide a fully automated, bespoke and cost effective service.
Recent innovations to the service include an on-line accounting system which ensures that customers are kept informed of their on-going gritting costs as well as an e-mail and SMS notification system to customers when MITIE’s gritting vehicles are on-site.
Larry Jones, Managing Director of MITIE’s gritting business said: ”MITIE’s gritting service is an essential part of site safety ensuring reasonable action is taken to ensure safe access for site employees, visitors and customers. With the early predictions of a harsh winter to come, we have been ensuring that we have will have the resources to meet the increased demand.”
