Diversity Week makes its debut at leading FTSE 250 outsourcing company

MITIE, the leading FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing business, has launched its first ever Diversity Week running from the 7th -11th March.

The week of events includes presentations from board level executives such as MITIE‟s Chief Executive Officer Ruby McGregor-Smith. Other highlights throughout the week include a supplier forum with 100 MITIE suppliers and two “Girls in Construction Days” hosted by MITIE skill centre schools, Fred Longworth High School in Manchester and Castle Vale school in Birmingham where fourteen year old girls learn practical skills such as plumbing and plastering.

There are also a number of forums being hosted by internal and external speakers on diversity issues such as sexuality, becoming „disability confident‟ and progressing up the career ladder as an ethnic minority.

Diversity week is accessible to all MITIE employees who can take part in 21 events throughout the week which are being hosted in offices across the country. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of diversity and equality issues and to educate employees on the importance of diversity and how it affects every member of the MITIE population, MITIE clients and the wider community.

MITIE has a strong commitment to the diversity agenda with a dedicated diversity board and a developed equality, diversity and inclusion policy in place. Diversity week has been designed to consolidate MITIE‟s credentials in this area by delivering key messages such as the importance of diversity to MITIE‟s employees and to MITIE as a business.

Ruby McGregor-Smith commented: “Our diversity week is designed to raise awareness of diversity and equality issues and encourage our people to stop and think about the subject.”

Notes for editors

What is MITIE?
We’re the strategic outsourcing company. What does that mean in practice? We manage facilities, properties and assets for our clients across the UK and beyond.

We work with our clients in three ways; some take full advantage of our whole range of expertise, others may only need one aspect of what we do:

Strategy and consultancy
+ Facilities and project management
+ Service delivery

Our strategic input can add value at the highest level by helping clients to manage their assets, while our practical management expertise can save customers money and reduce their carbon emissions. We work with a vast number of clients in every industry across both the public and private sectors and deliver the broadest range of services that can be found in one place: from integrated facilities management to engineering maintenance to lifecycle energy management and much more.

There’s a lot more to MITIE than you probably think. We’re a big company with big ambitions – a leading FTSE 250 support services business, with more than 56,000 people, revenues in excess of £1.7bn, and a reputation for being the best.
