Bedford College chooses Mitie to go zero waste to landfill

Mitie has secured a three-year contract at Bedford College to provide sustainable waste management and recycling services. The waste and recycling service started on 1 September 2012 and covers the management of general waste, recycling, clinical wastes and the provision of a new food waste recycling service

Mitie, the FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing and energy services company has secured a 3-year contract at Bedford College to provide sustainable waste management and recycling services.

The waste and recycling service started on 1 September 2012 and covers the management of general waste, recycling, clinical wastes and the provision of a new food waste recycling service. The objective is to stop any waste going to landfill within three months.

Mitie will also be working in partnership with the college to promote a number of new recycling initiatives as well as engaging with the students, staff and visitors.

Bedford College welcomes 16,000 students in eight different locations and is committed to reducing its impact on the environment through the green Bedford College initiative.

“A carbon management plan has recently been adopted by Bedford College; the target set is to reduce our carbon emissions by 35% by 2017 and this contract will assist in achieving that goal.
