Over 1,600 cyclists complete epic marathon ride

Over 1,600 cyclists including 231 Mitie riders came together last weekend to take part in the Mitie London Revolution, a 180 mile cycle ride around London, and the largest multi-day sports event in the UK.

Over 1,600 cyclists including 231 Mitie riders came together on the 16-17 May 2015 to take part in the Mitie London Revolution, a 180 mile cycle ride around London, and the largest multi-day sports event in the UK.

Starting at Lee Valley Athletics Centre early Saturday morning, the route took riders on a tour through central London before descending over the North Downs then heading west towards Ascot to finish for the day. On day 2, the cyclists rode through the Chiltern Hills and the ancient Epping Forest ending where they started at Lee Valley Athletics Centre.

Mitie, the FTSE 250 facilities management company, sponsored the event for the third year running, in association with its partner charity, the Mitie Foundation.

Mitie has raised almost £24,000 so far, which will be used to help support three charities:

  • Catch22 - a social business providing services that help people in tough situations to turn their lives around;
  • Springboard – an organisation that helps young people achieve their potential, nurtures unemployed people of any age into work;
  • and Working Chance, a charity that supports female ex-offenders to find work with mainstream employers.

Over the weekend, a huge number of exceptional volunteers from Mitie helped out, as well as some members from Springboard, making the event such a success.

Ruby McGregor-Smith CBE, Mitie’s Chief Executive, said:

“The Mitie London Revolution is such a great way of encouraging people to come together and raise money for a good cause.

“At Mitie, we’re passionate about encouraging people to fulfil their potential and partnering with organisations like Catch22, Springboard and Working Chance through the Mitie Foundation helps provide people of all backgrounds the opportunity to succeed in the world of work.

“I’d like to thank everyone who took part and all volunteers who helped out over the weekend.”

The Mitie Foundation, set up by Mitie in 2013, is an independent charity focused on creating opportunities for people of all backgrounds to join the world of work, by raising aspirations and unlocking people’s true potential.
