Mitie, the connected workspace and professional services business, has teamed up with Sanctuary Housing to provide computer training and equipment to Rayleigh & Rochford District Association for Voluntary Service (RRAVS).

Rayleigh and Rochford residents will learn how to make the most of the online world with brand new computer equipment and training courses, teaching the basics of the Internet and email, as part of a digital inclusion initiative. The two-hour Computer Access Training sessions will run for five weeks and also show residents how to edit pictures and use social media.

Mitie is working with Sanctuary Housing under an existing contract to provide a programme of planned maintenance to properties across the Rochford district over the coming months.

As everyday tasks such as paying utility bills, booking appointments and banking have moved online, digital inclusion initiatives help to build digital skills allowing them to have the same opportunities to engage with education, careers, healthcare and community information.

Gareth Allcock, Regional Manager at Mitie Property Management said: “Technology is something that should be accessible to people of all ages and we are happy to support local people in this way.

“This is another example of Mitie and Sanctuary Housing working together to improve the lives of residents.”

Chris Silvey, Sanctuary’s resident involvement officer, said: “The computer training courses have proved very popular and being able to use the latest technology can only increase that.

“We are extremely grateful to Mitie for providing the new equipment and look forward to seeing the benefits for our residents.”

Victoria Marzouki, partnerships and development manager at RRAVS, said: “We are delighted to be working with Sanctuary and Mitie on such a worthwhile project.

“This welcome donation will further strengthen our efforts to provide essential computer training in our community.”
