Mitie receives license to use HACT social value tool

Mitie Property Services recently became licensed to use the industry-recognised Social Value Bank.

Mitie Property Services, the property management division of Mitie, recently became licensed to use the industry-recognised Social Value Bank, demonstrating its commitment to social value and community investment initiatives.

HACT, the housing ideas and innovation agency, and partner Simetrica, are the pioneers of the Wellbeing Valuation Approach and the Value Calculator, which helps organisations understand their social value. With the license, Mitie becomes part of an exclusive group of contractors that have also adopted its use, alongside many housing associations and local authorities already using the Social Value Bank.

Mitie gets involved in huge number of social value activities across its contracts, ranging from organising skills centres and training for local people, to hosting community fairs and health and wellbeing programmes. And through this tool, Mitie will be able to accurately measure the cumulative effect of all these activities. Highlights for the past 12 months for Mitie’s community investment team include:

  • Engaging with 4,980 community members on our contracts, through training, employment and community development activities
    • 228 residents completed upskilling short courses in DIY, customer service, retail, construction, care and security
    • 75 apprentices working within the business
    • 47 work experience placements took place
    • 13 traineeships completed
    • 65 of our clients’ residents supported into full-time employment, 3 into part-time employment
    • 481 residents have had employability and basic IT skills training.

Robert Carroll, Head of Community Investment at Mitie said: “We’re delighted about being one of the first in the industry to become licenced to use HACT’s Social Value Bank. Delivering social value to clients, customers and the community is at the forefront of everything we do, and being able to capture the impact that that social value has, is of enormous value.”

  • Mary-Kathryn Rallings Adams, Director of Research at HACT said, “HACT is committed to helping embed Wellbeing Valuation – not just within housing associations, but also within the supply chain that works with the housing sector. We’re pleased to see Mitie and other contractors taking up the approach and look forward to seeing how the Social Value Bank can help drive social value more efficiently and effectively through procurement.”
