- Two-year contract to provide health & safety passports for Highways England
- ‘Mitie Validate’ uses smart technology to maintain up-to-date credentials and manage site access for 50,000 workers
Mitie’s security business has been awarded a two-year contract with Highways England to provide up to 50,000 road workers across England with a health & safety passport. Highways England will benefit from Mitie Validate, the UK’s leading system for managing mobile work forces.
The system operates using personalised smart cards which act as electronic ID for workers to gain access to construction sites; speeding up the clocking in and out process. The cards store vital information about the holder’s qualifications and competencies, ensuring specialist jobs are carried out by the correctly qualified people.
Mitie Validate also stores the number of hours worked, and ensures that fitness to work guidelines are clearly adhered to. It can operate on multiple platforms including smartphones, making it easier to manage both contractors and sub-contractors across sites.
Jason Towse, Managing Director of Mitie Total Security Management, said:
“The Mitie Validate system is a unique piece of software that gives employers of large workforces the ability to manage competence and compliance easily, with peace of mind in particular around health and safety. When high volumes of people are working on a project it is critical that the employer has visibility of everyone’s fitness to work, skills competence and adherence to working hours regulations. We’re delighted to be rolling this out for Highways England and supporting them in their projects.”
Simon Jones, Operations Regional Director at Highways England, said:
“Safety is our first imperative, so we are pleased to work with Mitie to provide a health and safety passport that will enable us to develop training and create a common standard. So far we have collaborated with over 20 different suppliers who work across our Strategic Road Network.”
