Mitie, the facilities management company, has announced a partnership with Stonewall, the LGBT diversity and inclusion charity. Mitie is now a member of Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme, Britain’s leading best-practice employers’ forum for sexual orientation and gender identity equality, diversity and inclusion.

In April 2015, Mitie launched its lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) employee diversity network, Proud to be, which Stonewall supported with a moving and insightful presentation. Aiming to educate, inform and inspire employees to be themselves by promoting an inclusive culture at work, Proud to be will be working with Stonewall to incorporate best-practice LGBT inclusion at Mitie.

Proud to be has just written a set of objectives for 2016 that Stonewall will help it fulfil, including a review of Mitie’s people policies to ensure they are as inclusive and supportive as possible for all Mitie people. Participation in the next Stonewall Workplace Equality Index will allow Mitie to benchmark itself against its industry peers, whilst leveraging best practice to drive forward the diversity agenda at Mitie.

Shaun Mooney, Digital Communications Manager at Mitie and Co-Chair of Proud to be, said: “We already feel like we have benefitted from working with Stonewall since our launch event. We are looking forward to working with Stonewall in the future to improve the already diverse and inclusive place Mitie is to work.”

James Haq-Myles, Client Account Manager at Stonewall, said: “Mitie’s membership of the Diversity Champion programme signals its commitment to foster a culture of inclusion for its LGBT colleagues. Stonewall are proud to partner with Mitie to provide a workplace in which LGBT people are able to perform better whilst being themselves.”
