Mitie finance head to lead Prince’s responsible business charity in the South West

Suzanne Baxter, Group Finance Director of Mitie, the facilities management company, has taken the helm as Chair of Business in the Community’s (BITC) South West Board.

Business in the Community, HRH The Prince of Wales’ national charity for responsible business, is a business -led, issue-focused organisation with over 30 years‘ experience of mobilising businesses.

Suzanne will be responsible for driving the strategic direction of the charity in the region, raising awareness of the benefits of responsible business and helping other businesses to develop their corporate responsibility and sustainability agendas.

Suzanne was previously Deputy Chair of the Opportunity Now Leadership Board, a part of BITC with a focus on workplace diversity.

Speaking about the appointment, Suzanne said: “I am delighted to be working with BITC and its member organisations in the South West. BITC is a great organisation that enables businesses to work together to create a fairer society and a more sustainable future. Businesses in the South West region can have a huge impact on some of the most serious local social and economic challenges.

“Many regional businesses are already doing incredibly important work in this area and as Chair of the South West Strategic Board I look forward to encouraging more to do the same. Responsible business practice is a cause I feel passionate about. It has a positive impact on our local economy and in our local communities, as well as creating huge value for businesses and the people working in and with them.”

Outside of her work at Mitie, Suzanne is Non-Executive Director of WH Smith plc and Chair of their Audit Committee. Additionally, Suzanne is Chair of the Council of the Business Services Association, a policy and research centre of excellence for the support services industry.

“Suzanne’s appointment will be a great boost for BITC in the South West. She knows the charity well already and brings with her a huge amount of experience from Mitie. She will bring a CFO’s perspective to what it means to be a responsible business, and we’re delighted to welcome her on board,” said Raksha Pattni, area director, England West at BITC.
