Mitie, the facilities management company, today publishes its annual Sustainability Report, showcasing improved performance in sustainability for the tenth consecutive year and strong progress towards its 2020 targets.

Underpinned by the group’s values to excel, challenge and inspire, the report focuses on its relationships with stakeholders: clients, people, communities, suppliers and the environment, and their collaborative commitment to longer term sustainability goals.

This year has shown good progress against the group’s sustainability objectives.

Among the achievements, for the fifth year in a row Mitie was recognised within the Times’ Top 50 Employers for Women list. About half of its working population are female, with the percentage of women in the higher income brackets having grown considerably over the past 3 years.

This year also saw Mitie become one of 16 companies to sign up to the Business Services Association’s (BSA) Responsible Cleaner Scheme, outlining its commitment to best practice in the cleaning industry.

Mitie also produced a Code of Conduct this year, encouraging all employees to do the right thing at all times. This is aimed at every Mitie person and offers instructions as to how to apply Mitie’s core values and behaviours.

Health and safety is a core priority for the group, and this year the group produced a series of videos, entitled ‘One lapse can last a lifetime’, instructing employees on safe behaviours at work.

In partnership with Remploy, the UK’s leading provider of specialist employment services to people experiencing complex barriers to work, Mitie continues to help change the lives of thousands of people through its charity, the Mitie Foundation – with almost 400 people having been taken on by the company since 2006.

Ruby McGregor-Smith CBE, Chief Executive of Mitie said:
“Our business is focused on helping clients run their businesses more effectively. We’re all about developing people to challenge how things are done and inspire change.

“I’m really proud of our people who continue to work hard to help us meet our targets. Together, we’re building a business that is all about long-term relationships with clients, our people and the communities in which we work.”
