An Ammanford local has been named Home Care Worker of the Year at the Great British Home Care Awards 2015.

Huw Davies, who works for MiHomecare, Mitie’s homecare services business, received the award for providing a consistently high standard of care for people living in their own homes.

He received the award on 27 June 2015 at a ceremony held in Birmingham and hosted by The United Kingdom Home Care Association (UKHCA).

Huw, who has worked at MiHomecare’s Ammanford Carmarthenshire branch in Wales since 2007, was applauded for his warmth, compassion and sheer commitment to the job in hand.

Evidence of dedication, awareness of colleagues and career development through training are all important elements of the judging criteria.

In his application, he said that his one magic wish to improve the home care service would be to make all his clients better.

Commenting on his win, Huw Davis said: “When I learnt that I’d been nominated for the award I felt a strong sense of achievement. I’ve worked in home care for over 10 years, and have loved every minute of it.

“My role is to give a sense of independence or support to each client I go to. I’d like to think that each and every client I provide care to feels they receive the care they deserve.”

Narinder Singh, Managing Director of MiHomecare, said: “I’m so proud of Huw, the finalists and all our home care workers who work hard and are committed to providing top quality care.

“Providing the care and support that enables people to continue living independently in their own homes is a challenging and inspiring profession and I would personally like to thank each and every care worker for their continued commitment and dedication.”

Bridget Warr, Chief Executive of UKCHA said: “Being part of the judging panel for the Great British Care Awards is one of the highlights of my year. It’s a real privilege to meet all of the nominees whose skill, passion and commitment to the people they support, and their work shines through.

“The Great British Care Awards is a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contribution of truly outstanding individuals in the homecare workforce.

“UKHCA congratulates all award winners and nominees.”

Five other finalists from MiHomecare were also commended for their commitment, dedication and hard work: Emma Lewis in The Home Care Registered Manager category, Ritah Kavule and Kimberly Yates for the Home Care Co-ordinator award, and Grant Griffiths and Gemma Gartside for the Frontline Leaders award.
